If you’re coming from out of town there’s quite a bit to do in Chicago. If you have the time we have a few suggestions for you.
Where to eat – A few of our favorites near the venue, and a few a bit further.
- Portillo’s – Chicago chain restaurant with a variety of great Chicago classics. Must try the chocolate cake.
- Mr. Beef on Orleans – Portillo’s is great, but in the end it’s a chain. Mr. Beef is family owned and operated, it doesn’t get much more Chicago.
- Pizzeria Due – A favorite of the Waszkowski family, classic deep dish. The 3 cheese spinach deep dish pizza is where it’s at.
- Bari – Old school Italian deli featuring an assortment of subs and hot sandwiches.
- Meli Cafe – A solid option for a traditional breakfast, with a broad menu on Wells.
- Good Measure – One of the best burgers in the area, craft cocktails, and punk rock.
- Cafe Tola – Empanadas, breakfast burritos and coffee are a great option for a quick bite on LaSalle.
Where to drink – Mickey and Jill live a clean lifestyle so this info had to be sourced.
- Emmit’s Irish Pub – Irish Pub with traditional Irish fare. Was the setting for George Clooney and Matt Damon’s first meet up in Ocean’s Eleven.
- Richard’s – Chicago dive bar where you can still smoke indoors, it’s what dreams are made of.
- Five Star Bar – The establishment where Mickey and Jill first met. Upscale biker bar with solid dining options.
What to do – Chicago’s beautiful in the fall, so if you’re here you should check some it out.
- Navy Pier – It’s like a mall with a ferris wheel on a pier!
- Montgomery Ward Park – Did someone say free? Just a park, by the river, in Chicago.
- Art on the Mart – Part of the riverwalk, and free. AotM occurs nightly after sunset which on October 4th should occur at 6:30ish.
- Museum Campus – Home to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Soldier Field. A gorgeous place to take a walk by the lake even if you don’t go to any of the museums.
- Chicago Riverwalk – Recently updated and upgraded the new riverwalk stretches farther than it ever has and provides many dining options. For the more adventurous you can catch a river taxi and take a short cruise.
- USWNT Game – The Women’s World Cup Champions play an International Friendly at Soldier Field on Sunday October 6th.
